Today I bring you my homemade pizza recipe that is not only easy to make but also, easy to bake and there is nothing more satisfying than creating a meal from scratch, especially one that just happens to be a generational favourite!
This is a kid-friendly and meat-free recipe but there is nothing stopping you from adding in your meaty selections or desired vegetable choices.
2 cups flour
1 packet of instant dry yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
½ teaspoon salt
⅔ cup lukewarm water
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
Herbs & Spices:
Combine warm water with olive oil. Set aside. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, yeast, sugar and salt. I like to make a well in the center and pour the liquids in and start mixing together until all the flour has been fully incorporated and the dough starts to form.
HINT: If the dough is too sticky, gradually add more flour and if it’s too dry, gradually add more water.
Place your dough on a lightly floured surface and knead it for a good 5 minutes. I found folding it into itself with a wooden spoon for a couple of minutes worked well and reduced the kneading time by quite a bit. Shape the dough into a smooth ball and place in large greased bowl, rolling the dough around the bowl to coat with oil. Cover tightly with cling-wrap and allow to rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until you see it double in size.
Now for my favourite part, punching the dough! A great stress reliever and it also releases the air while deflating your dough before rolling it out. Sprinkle some flour on your counter top and plonk you dough onto it. Use your rolling pin and start rolling your base down in your desired shape.
Place onto a baking sheet and add your favorite pizza toppings!
Bake for 10-15minutes or until the cheese starts to bubble and you’re ready to enjoy!
