Fringe

Inspired by the 70s trend that’s all over magazines and clothing stores, I decided to craft Mila a cute little Kimono. Being a street style fashion blogger I had to bring some edge to the look which is why I paired it with faux leather shorts.

I bought this gorgeous fabric months ago and I’ve been waiting for it to speak to me. In a moment of weakness, I stepped into Elegance fabric store to browse but walked out R400+ later with a 3 meters of chiffon and not forgetting the lining to match.

The first time I worked with chiffon it really got the better of me. I was intimidated by the delicacy and I didn’t want to ruin the fabric, especially after paying so much for it, so I let it lay in the bag in came in, under a mountain of other material. Eventually I brought the fragile fabric back out and began to play. When I look at the result and how much Mila loves it, I want to go to my sewing machine and knock out a few more. I think that kimonos are the perfect summertime accessory. Ideal for throwing over a swimsuit at the beach or even a strappy dress/top on a warm day.

The final detail on the Kimono was the fringe, it really gives the look a playful and whimsical feel. She loves to “wiggle” and have the strands sway from side to side.
